There are many wonderful places to visit within a few miles of the Globe Inn. The picturesque village of Fowey is a few miles away, by car or boat, with its steep harbour, sailing and fishing activities and annual Daphne Du Maurier Festival. Polruan is a short ferry trip across the harbour. There are several lovely beaches nearby, including Readymoney Cove, Polkerris, Polridmouth, and Parr Sands. A number of very nice circular walks begin and end at Lostwithiel, and 'Lostwithiel Beach' is a favourite spot to relax by the river and the old medieval bridge. St Winnow, with its ancient riverside church, is three miles from Lostwithiel - Angie and John Stevens serve the best cream tea in the area here, and they also sell delicious home-reared beef and pork, as well as venison, from their riverside farm shop. The lovely creekside village of Lerryn is a mile or two further down the road from St Winnow, and well worth a visit. Heading towards St Austell, the fascinating port of Charlestown, with its old sailing ships, is a short drive away.

Below is some brief information about a few of the other popular attractions on our doorstep:

Lanhydrock House & Gardens

One of the most fascinating and complete late 19th-century houses in England, Lanhydrock is full of period atmosphere. Although the gatehouse and north wing (with magnificent 32yd-long gallery with plaster ceiling) survive from the 17th century, the rest of the house was rebuilt following a disastrous fire in 1881. The new house featured the latest in contemporary living, including central heating. The garden has a stunning collection of magnolias, rhododendrons and camellias, and offers fine colours right through into autumn. All this is set in a glorious estate of 364ha (900 acres) of woods and parkland running down to the River Fowey, with an extensive network of footpaths. Distance from the Globe Inn: 2 miles

Lost Gardens of Heligan

February 16th 1990 was a fateful day for Tim Smit. That was the day he and John Willis first explored the decades of tangled overgrowth and melancholic ruins that was then Heligan Gardens. As he says in his enthralling book "In Retrospect it was a day that was to change our lives". There were rumours that half of the village of Mevagissey, Cornwall had been conceived amongst the palms and bamboos of an overgrown tropical valley which connected the fishing village with Heligan House and it's grounds. Tales of temples and mosaic floors found by poachers abounded. Distance from the Globe Inn: 9 miles.
